Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Lore ("Lore", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Lore mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Services"). We built Lore as a personal knowledge operating system — a tool for multi-domain professionals to organize context across work streams. Your privacy matters to us, and we've designed the app to keep your data under your control.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated automatically when you use the Services.

Content you create. Lore is built around your knowledge. This includes:

  • Workspaces and Topics — The domains and subjects you organize your life around
  • Notes, Briefs, and CTPs — Context Transfer Packages containing your decisions, context, tasks, goals, interactions, and resources
  • Voice transcripts — Spoken notes captured through the in-app voice recording feature
  • Tasks and action items — To-dos with priority levels, due dates, and status
  • Financial records — Income, expenses, and pending invoices you choose to track within topics
  • Focus sessions — Deep work session data including duration, notes, and focus scores
  • Chat conversations — Messages exchanged with the AI assistant about your notes and content

Permissions-based data. If you choose to grant access, Lore may use the following device capabilities:

  • Microphone — To capture spoken notes and create voice transcripts
  • Speech Recognition — To transcribe your voice into text using Apple's on-device speech framework
  • Contacts — To help you link people from your address book to workspaces and topics (name, phone, and email are cached locally)

All permissions are optional. You can decline or revoke them at any time in your device's Settings app without affecting core functionality.

Device and technical information. We may collect limited technical information needed to operate the Services, such as app version, device type, operating system version, and basic diagnostic or error data.

2. How We Use Information

We use information solely to provide, operate, and improve the Services:

  • Capture and transcribe voice recordings into text
  • Organize your workspaces, topics, notes, tasks, and financial records
  • Generate AI-powered summaries, key point extraction, and insight analysis
  • Power the AI chat assistant so you can ask questions about your own notes
  • Auto-generate titles for your transcripts and notes
  • Track focus sessions and deep work metrics
  • Detect cross-domain connections and patterns across your workspaces
  • Maintain app functionality, troubleshoot issues, and improve performance

3. Local-First Data Storage

Lore is designed with an offline-first architecture. Your core data — workspaces, topics, notes, tasks, transcripts, contacts, transactions, and sessions — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.

Voice transcripts are also saved locally on your device. No audio recordings are stored after transcription — voice input is transcribed in real time using Apple's on-device Speech framework, and only the resulting text is persisted.

This means your data stays on your device and is accessible even without an internet connection.

4. AI Processing and Third-Party Services

Lore uses AI features to help you extract value from your notes. When you use these features, relevant text content is sent to third-party AI providers for processing:

  • OpenAI (GPT-4o) — Used for AI chat, note summarization, key point extraction, action item identification, insight analysis, and auto-title generation
  • Apple Speech Framework — Used for on-device voice-to-text transcription (processed locally on your device, not sent to third parties)

When you use AI-powered features (such as "Chat with Notes", note review, or auto-titling), the text content you are working with is sent to OpenAI's API to generate responses. This data is processed according to OpenAI's data usage policies.

AI processing is only triggered when you actively use an AI feature. Your data is not sent to any AI provider in the background or without your action.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. Ever.

We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • With AI service providers (currently OpenAI) when you actively use AI features — only the text content relevant to your request is shared
  • To comply with applicable law, legal process, or enforceable governmental requests
  • To protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the Services, or others
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (subject to applicable law), with prior notice where required

6. Data Retention

Because Lore stores data locally on your device, your data persists as long as the app is installed and you choose to keep it. You can delete any content — workspaces, topics, notes, tasks, transcripts, contacts, and sessions — directly within the app at any time.

Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.

Content sent to OpenAI for AI processing is handled according to OpenAI's data retention policies. We do not independently retain copies of data sent to AI providers beyond the immediate API request.

7. Your Choices and Controls

You have full control over your data in Lore:

  • Permissions — Decline or revoke microphone, speech recognition, and contacts access at any time in your device Settings
  • Content deletion — Delete any workspace, topic, note, task, transcript, or other content directly within the app
  • AI features — AI-powered features are opt-in. If you do not want content processed by AI providers, simply do not use the AI chat, note review, or auto-title features
  • Full data removal — Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data

8. Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement measures designed to protect your information:

  • Data is stored locally on your device using Apple's encrypted SwiftData framework
  • API keys and sensitive credentials are stored securely and excluded from version control
  • All network communication with AI service providers uses TLS encryption in transit
  • Voice recordings are transcribed and immediately discarded — no audio files are stored

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

Lore is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Services, please contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

10. International Data Transfers

Your locally stored data remains on your device. When you use AI-powered features, your content may be processed by OpenAI servers located in the United States or other countries. By using these features, you understand that relevant content may be transferred to and processed in those locations.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the Services. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
